Program

Half day workshops for teams

Three and a half hours with a team that has changed shape, inherited a new remit, or been circling the same decision for a quarter. Everyone leaves with a named commitment and a date against it.

Who it is for

Teams where the problem is shared, not personal

Coaching one member of a stuck team almost never moves the team. If four people each hold a slightly different version of what the group is trying to do, no amount of individual work resolves it, because each person is being effective at a different thing.

The teams that get most from a half day are usually in one of three positions. They have just merged, split, or taken on a remit nobody has written down. They have a decision that has been on the agenda for a quarter and keeps being deferred for more information. Or they are working hard, hitting their numbers, and cannot say out loud what the numbers are for.

Six to twenty people works. Below six, one to one coaching for the two or three people who actually hold the problem is usually better value. Above twenty, nobody speaks.

How it runs

Before, during, after

A workshop that starts cold spends its first hour finding out what the problem is. That hour is bought back with preparation, which is why the brief and the call happen first.

  1. Before A brief and a short call

A written brief from whoever owns the team, then twenty minutes on a call. The half day is designed against that, not against a template.

  2. The day Three and a half hours, two breaks

What the team is actually for, what is genuinely in the way, and what each person will own. Facilitated, not lectured. Nobody presents slides.

  3. After One page, within three working days

Every commitment made, who made it, and the date attached. Sent to the team lead and to everyone who was in the room.

The detail

Format and cost

Workshops run remotely, in one session rather than split across two mornings. A team that stops and restarts loses the thread.

  • LengthThree and a half hours with two breaks. Half a day is the useful limit for this kind of work.
  • Group sizeSix to twenty people. Twelve is the number that tends to work best.
  • PreparationA written brief from the team lead and a twenty minute call, usually a fortnight ahead.
  • OutputA one page written summary of every commitment and date, within three working days.
  • PriceQuoted per engagement. The quote depends on group size and how much preparation the brief calls for, and it is a fixed figure given in writing before anything is booked.
  • Follow upSome teams add a sixty minute session six weeks later to check the commitments. It is optional and quoted separately.

We had deferred the same decision at four consecutive monthly meetings. It took ninety minutes of the half day to find out that two of us thought we had already made it.

Send the situation and get a quote

Describe the team, roughly how many people, and what has been stuck. You will get a written quote and an outline of the half day, or a straight recommendation that a workshop is not what this needs.
